Side blown bamboo flutes featuring 4, 5, and 6 tone hole tuning systems. Pentatonic scales, Eastern scales and Ragas from India. In the workshop, I cure a few species of Chinese and Japanese bamboo throughout the year. I am always buying and stocking bamboo in various diameters and constantly building orders and perfecting my craft.

When I build your bamboo flute I drill the emboucher (breath hole) and the tone holes then I size the tone holes through burning with a selection of burning rods heated by fire. I use a mix of stains to achieve all of the finishes of the various flutes. Some of my bamboo flutes are based on the David Carradine flute design model where the bamboo flute can rest on the left shoulder and features a sound chamber above the breath hole. I have been building Carradine style flutes for many years. My bamboo flutes are built in the ancient tradition of the flute builders from China and India.

Many of my 2010 flutes are based on the more traditional side blown bamboo flute design which does not rest on your shoulder. New Native style side blown flutes are being designed now and added into the inventory in June 2010!

I use FIRE exclusively within the building process, in detailing the finish and with the setting of the mouthpiece of my Bamboo flutes, Shakuhachi and Xiao.

I use bee's wax, an eco-flow natural water based stain color embellishing application, and a final treatment of mineral oil before your flute ships out.

In 2009 my wife Nicole Richardson joined in the production. Nicole is an accomplished published artist and an amazing tribal fusion dancer. She is creating most all of the detailed carvings on the flutes and I carve much of the kanji script on other orders. Nicole is the main artist of Thomas Richardson Music bamboo flutes. I am excited and proud to watch the evolution of the art on our bamboo Flute line as time goes forward. Nicole does amazing art work. New images will be added all the time!
