Side blown bamboo flutes featuring 4, 5, and 6 tone hole tuning systems in Asian scales, Middle Eastern scales and Ragas from India. In my workshop, I cure a couple species of Chinese Tonkin bamboo and Chinese Stone bamboo throughout the year.

When I build your flute order I drill the emboucher and the tone holes first, then I finish the tone holes with a quick burn from a selection of burning rods. I use a mix of stains to achieve the green finish or the darker finish. Some of my bamboo flutes are based on the David Carradine {Kung Fu TV Series) flute design model (bamboo flute can rest on the left shoulder). I tend to build in the ancient tradition of the master flute builders from China and India. Many of the new 2009 flutes are based on the more traditional side blown bamboo flute design which does not rest on your shoulder.

Along with my orders, I am designing and building several new flutes that will begin being added into the inventory this month February 2010. I am recording all the flutes that I don't have MP3s for and updating some of the inventory with new photos. I am updating the practice CDs to an instructional CD. Lot's of work going on now and I plan to be bringing many new products to the site this year!

I sometimes use fire within the building process, in creating the finish and with the setting of the mouthpiece of my Shakuhachi's.

I use an eco-flow natural water based stain color embellishing application, some bee's wax and a final treatment of mineral oil before your flute ships out.

Bamboo flutes are healing medicine for the body, the mind and spirit and take you into the presence of the sacred breath. All bamboo flutes are wonderful tools to explore NADA YOGA, "sound meditation". If you want to explore a more peaceful life, and become more meditative in the mind, a bamboo flute is a great companion for your journey!

I make each bamboo flute special for each customer. I receive so many orders I don't have time to build stock anymore. I try to finish your flute as fast as possible though remember it is just one man building each flute by hand and his wife completing the more detailed carvings! It just takes a bit of time.

In 2009 my wife Nicole Richardson joined in the production. Nicole is an accomplished published artist and an amazing belly dancer. She is creating some of the detailed carvings on particular flutes such as the Shaolin flute, the Shakuhachi's and others. I am hand carving and painting as well. I am excited to watch the evolution of the art on Thomas Richardson Music Bamboo Flutes as time goes forward. New images will be added all the time!
